Charity accounting

With staff who have been preparing charity accounts since before the introduction of the Charity Commission’s first Statement of Recommended Practice in 1995, we are well versed in accounting for charities, charitable companies and other not-for-profit businesses and clubs.

We are fully up to date with SORP 2005 and regularly attend Charity courses and Conferences Nationally to stay ahead on all new developments.

Charity audit / Independent examiners

We work with over 20 charity clients, many of which require full statutory audits or independent examinations.

Out audit approach is risk based incorporating a full review of internal systems, allowing us to add real value to the organisation from our findings. Given our vast experience in this area we apply the an audit approach most appropriate to charities which is, of course, compliant with International Auditing Standards.

Charity taxation

The complex nature of charity taxation is one that must not be overlooked. Our staff are well trained regarding charity taxation and the potential pitfalls that may arise with trading activities, contacts, sponsorship, and the like. We also ensure that staff are up to date with developments with gift aid and other income maximisation possibilities.

Over the years we have structured a number of new charities as well as dealing with the implementation of charity subsidiaries and reorganisations resulting in significant tax savings.

Charities and VAT

Even more complex than taxation is charity VAT! We pride ourselves on our experience in this field – identifying VAT savings and refunds, as well as ensuring basic compliance.
